Secret Path Week, October 17-22

Secret Path Week is a national movement commemorating the legacies of Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack. The Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund would like to inspire our Legacy Schools, Legacy Space partners, and all Canadians to use this week to answer Gord Downie’s call to action, to “do something” by creating a reconciliACTION.

What is a ReconciliACTION?

A reconciliACTION is any meaningful action that aims to bring Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together in the spirit of reconciliation through education, awareness and understanding. A few ideas for your reconciliACTION are:

  • Researching the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities in your region and learning the land acknowledgement; make sure this is built into your business’s or organization’s communications
  • Host a dinner, lunch and learn or morning coffee with some traditional Indigenous dishes. Share information and encourage conversations about Indigenous history, culture and reconciliation
  • Visit a local Indigenous organization; friendship centre, community group, museum or attend a cultural event in your community

How can I get involved?

  • Check our calendar of events to see what reconciliACTIONs are happening in your area.
  • Host your own reconciliACTION.  Need ideas, use our suggested resources here
  • Post and share images of your reconciliACTION on social media with the hashtags #SecretPathWeek #ReconciliACTION and #DoSomething

We look forward to sharing your reconciliACTIONs!
